ST. LOUIS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District is hosting a public meeting on the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) for Coldwater Creek Properties on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in the James J. Eagan Community Center, 1 James J. Eagan Drive, Florissant, Missouri, 63033, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

FUSRAP protects human health and the environment by addressing the risks at designated sites contaminated with radioactive waste from the Nation’s early atomic weapons development and production activities. The Program is committed to protecting human health and the environment, executing approved remedies for cleaning up radioactive contamination above health-based cleanup guidelines, and minimizing effects on residents and area businesses. Since 1997, approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of soil have been remediated by St. Louis District FUSRAP in St. Louis County, of which approximately 925,000 cubic yards were located in North County.

The meeting will provide the public with a presentation on FUSRAP updates including Coldwater Creek properties, air dispersion, and an update from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Poster/informational breakout sessions will be conducted before and after the formal presentations which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Missouri Department of Natural Resources, ATSDR, and FUSRAP experts will be available during the breakout session to address any specific issues or concerns.

“The Corps of Engineers is honored by the confidence of those who live, play, and work in the North County communities in regards to our commitment to a healthier and safer environment. Our continued successful partnership relies in great part on keeping the communities we serve informed,” said Bruce Munholand, chief of FUSRAP for the St. Louis District. “We look forward to the discussion on how work is progressing, and addressing some of the engineering and science requirements, technology, and methods that lead to the successes achieved to date.
