Wappapello Lake – An exhibit honoring the men and women who gave their lives in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars will soon be on display at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center at Wappapello Lake. “Remembering Our Fallen” will be brought to the visitor center courtesy of the Bellevue University and Wappapello Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3416 from August 27 through September 1, 2014. The Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center is located at the south end of the Wappapello Dam. The visitor center is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  A ceremony to open the display is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2014, beginning at 9:30 a.m. near the visitor center.  There is no charge for admission. Veteran’s Administration Hospital personnel will be present at the opening ceremony with information about available resources to veterans.

“Remembering Our Fallen” is a stark reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by more than 150 Missourians in the ongoing war on terror. The display includes photos of Missouri’s fallen and is sponsored by Bellevue University. “We can never forget those who sacrificed everything for our freedom. We must remember these American heroes and speak their names when we see their family members,” said Colonel James Biernesser (ret.) U.S. Air Force and Director of Military Programs for Bellevue University. “This exhibit is created in such a way so it can travel easily throughout Missouri so more people will have the opportunity to honor and remember Missouri’s Fallen.”
