    Carlyle Lake — It’s almost time to say goodbye to summer. If you’ll be spending the weekend on or around the water this Labor Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urges you to remember these safety tips. Before heading out for the lake or river, be sure you have a life jacket on hand for everyone. Know your swimming ability. And if you plan to swim at a lake, please do so at a designated swim beach that is marked with a buoy line.

  • Serengeti Steve returns to Rend Lake Visitor Center

    REND LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you to join us this Saturday, August 30th at the Rend Lake Visitor Center for the final Environmental Science Series Program of the 2014 season. The very popular, Serengeti Steve, will wrap up our season by presenting The Reptile Experience. Two programs will be presented the first begins at 11:00 a.m. and the second at 2:00 p.m. Join us as snakes, lizards, scorpions, and much more will be a part of your “reptile experience.”
  • Temporary Closure of Saddle Dam II Roadway

    The Saddle Dam II roadway between McNair Recreation Area and Dam East Boat Ramp will be temporarily closed to the general public from September 2nd through September 10th for road maintenance. The McNair Campground and Recreation Area and Dam East Boat Ramp will remain open to the general public during this timeframe. All visitors are asked to use the South Shore State Park entrance to access the Dam East Boat Ramp.

Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, bike riding or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offers educational programs in the campgrounds and at the beaches every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the recreation season. Presentations are free and open to the public.

  • 23rd Annual Celebrate Duck Day at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE - The 23rd Annual Kaskaskia River Duck Race returns to the Carlyle Lake West Spillway on Saturday, August 30, 2014, the event will have the same format as last year. Due to maintenance work and the closure of the bridge deck on the main dam, the event has been changed to “Celebrate Duck Day Event”. Thousands of ducks will be securely placed on land in a fenced area located in the West Spillway. A designated official will be blindfolded and randomly choose the winning ducks. The owner of the winning duck will be awarded $5,000 courtesy of the Maschhoffs and nine additional prizes will be issued to the runners-up. The top four runner-up prizes include four St. Louis Cardinal Tickets donated by Imming Insurance, Sunday Brunch for four people at Krieger’s at the Holiday Inn Atrium in Mt. Vernon, a gift basket and wing tray from Dairy King in Breese and gift basket including four passes to the 2015 Balloon Fest in Centralia, IL.

  • "Remembering Our Fallen" Photo Exhibit at Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center

    Wappapello Lake – An exhibit honoring the men and women who gave their lives in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars will soon be on display at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center at Wappapello Lake. “Remembering Our Fallen” will be brought to the visitor center courtesy of the Bellevue University and Wappapello Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3416 from August 27 through September 1, 2014.
