  • Carlyle Lake Fireworks Spectacular

    CARLYLE LAKE – Due to elevated water conditions that have impacted Point 1, the fireworks will be shot off from Lakeview Access Area for the Fireworks Spectacular scheduled for Saturday, 29 June. Lakeview Access Area is located at the east end of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. During the Fireworks Spectacular, Lakeview Access Area and Chipmunk Nature Trail will be closed to the public for visitors’ safety. The Dam East Spillway Recreation Area will be open for parking/viewing of the fireworks. Once the fireworks begin, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the Dam East Spillway Recreation Area due to safety concerns. Viewing of the fireworks can best be seen from the west side of the top of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam, Dam West Day Use Area, McNair Beach, Dam East South Shore (Point 18), or from the water.

    CARLYLE LAKE – June is National Great Outdoors Month and Carlyle Lake is the perfect place for all your favorite outdoors activities. Carlyle Lake has several nature trails around the lake for hiking enthusiasts to enjoy. Chipmunk Trail, Little Prairie Nature Trail, and the Willow Pond Trail are all centrally located and easy to access. Eldon Hazlet State Park also has several hiking trails throughout the park. All trails are free to the public.
  • Wasmuth Receives Distinguished Service Award

    Carlyle Lake –Natural Resource Specialist Doug Wasmuth was honored by the Illinois High School Association as a recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Service Award for his involvement with the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals. This annual award is given to individuals with a long history of service to the Illinois High School Association.

From Friday, 14 June through Monday, 17 June anyone can fish in Illinois without having to purchase a fishing license.   • Carlyle Lake Pool Update - May 23, 2019

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, 23 May 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 446.63 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is   approximately 4,040 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Wednesday, 22 May 2019 was approximately 12,790 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 449.5 feet NGVD on Tuesday, 28 May 2019. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

As the steward of many of these public waters, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reminds visitors to be aware of the importance of practicing safe, sensible and thoughtful activities in and around the water.
  • Carlyle Lake Celebrates Kids to Parks Day

    CARLYLE LAKE – To celebrate National Kids to Parks Day and the Illinois High School State Bass Fishing Finals, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with Academy Sports + Outdoors, Henkel’s Hook and Arrow, and Fishing and the Outdoors, will host “Fishing Frenzy” on Saturday, 18 May 2019 from 1p.m. to 3p.m. at the Dam West Boat Ramp. Participants will visit stations that will teach them the basics skills of fishing. Stations will include: casting, fish identification, knot tying, fish anatomy, types of bait, and water safety. Each station will have a challenge for participants to complete. Prizes will be awarded to participants that complete every challenge. Stick around after the event to see the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals weigh-in at approximately 3:30.
  • Dam West Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals

    CARLYLE LAKE - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Bass Fishing Finals are being held at Carlyle Lake Friday, 17 May 2019 – Saturday, 18 May 2019 at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. To accommodate tournament activities, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed from Monday, 13 May 2019 at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, 18 May 2019 at 6:00 p.m. Visitors should use Allen Branch and Apache Boat Ramps located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East Boat Ramp and Keyesport Boat Ramp which will be available to the general public during this period.
