Mark Twain Lake, November 17, 2015 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that additional firewood cutting areas are being made available at Mark Twain Lake for individuals to cut firewood for personal use. The cutting period is open and will continue through February 19, 2016. Please be aware that firewood cutting areas may close for short durations to accommodate hunting seasons, inclement weather, and ground conditions.
Areas available for firewood cutting are as follows: Indian Creek Recreation Area main access road and four-lane boat ramp road; Hunter/Fisherman Lot No. 15; and Hunter/Fisherman Lot No. 53. In addition, firewood cutting is now available in the Frank Russell Recreation Area, and will be open in the Ray Behrens Recreation Area at a later date to be determined. Cutting hours in the Frank Russell and Ray Behrens Recreation Areas will be Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. Check with the Mark Twain Lake Project Office to determine status.
The fee for a firewood permit is $10.00. Firewood cutting for commercial use or resale is prohibited. Permits must be obtained in person between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Mark Twain Lake Project Office. Payment may be made by personal check, credit card, or cash.
