National Public Lands Day at Wappapello Lake

Published Sept. 15, 2015
Wappapello Lake – It's that time of year to pitch in for our public lands. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you or your organization to participate in this year’s National Public Lands Day events on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Caring individuals are asked to help remove trash and litter along roadways as well as other activities at Wappapello Lake. National Public Lands Day is celebrated annually at public lands in the United States on the last Saturday in September. A signature event of the National Environmental Education Foundation, it promotes both popular enjoyment and volunteer conservation of public lands. The national event is sponsored by the Toyota Motor Corporation.

If you or your organization has adopted a trail or portion of roadway leading to the lake, we hope you will join us in this effort from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. After the cleanup and trail maintenance activities are complete, everyone will meet at Picnic Shelter #6, located in the Spillway Recreation Area, for a free lunch provided by Baldwin Toyota in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Also a “Fee-Free” pass will be awarded to each volunteer. Passes will be honored at all U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, U. S. Forest Service, and Fish and Wildlife Service day use areas.

Taking pride in our public lands is a team effort. If you are interested in participating in the National Public Lands Day activities, please call Park Rangers Andrew Jefferson or Jennifer Morse at (573) 222-8562 or meet us at the Wappapello Lake Project Office at 8 a.m. on September 26.
