Kaskaskia River Project is Back in Business

Published June 25, 2013

The Kaskaskia River Project, located near the mouth of the Kaskaskia River, is now back in operation for visitors to come and enjoy the recreation areas. The third largest flood experienced at the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam since the 1993 and 1995 floods has now receded enough to clean up the debris and facilities. The Kaskaskia River Boat Access and picnic shelter, located upstream of the lock and dam, are available for public use. Also, the 15 site Confluence Campground and Mississippi River Boat Access, downstream of the lock and dam, are open. The ½ mile Confluence Trail is still closed due to flooding. Other accessible areas on the Kaskaskia River include the New Athens Boat Ramp, Wood Duck Marina, and White Swan Access. The Kaskaskia River Project encourages visitors to come out and safely enjoy the weekend on the Kaskaskia River. Remember that life jackets float, you don’t!
