John F. Spalding and Indian Creek Beach Opening Date Delayed for High Water Cleanup

Published May 15, 2013

Mark Twain Lake, May 15, 2013 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake will soon be in the process of removing flood debris, cleaning, inspecting, and assembling the John F. Spalding and Indian Creek Beaches.  Due to this spring’s continued high water, the opening date of the two beaches will be delayed from May 17 to May 24, 2013 to ensure completion of the work and safety of visitors.

These two areas attract over 380,000 visitors annually and feature picnic areas and boat ramp access to the 18,600 acre lake.  Currently the other associated day-use facilities located within John F. Spalding and Indian Creek Day-Use Areas are open.  Additionally, all campgrounds and four-lane boat ramps are open and available for use.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain would like to apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause. For additional information please contact the Mark Twain Lake Project Office at (573) 735-4097 or by e-mail at martwaininfo@usace.army.mil.
