Wasmuth Receives Distinguished Service Award

Carlyle Lake –Natural Resource Specialist Doug Wasmuth was honored by the Illinois High School Association as a recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Service Award for his involvement with the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals. This annual award is given to individuals with a long history of service to the Illinois High School Association.

“I am honored to receive such an award, but it is truly a team effort that makes the tournament a success each year,” said Doug Wasmuth. “Thanks to our partners Carlyle Lake was chosen to host the first tournament and their dedication and support is what has gotten us to the 11th year of the tournament.”

For more than ten years, Doug has been the “go-to” person at Carlyle Lake for the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals. He was instrumental in bringing the tournament to Carlyle Lake and has gone above and beyond every year after to ensure participants and visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience. Doug’s passion for fishing and the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals at Carlyle Lake is evident in his enthusiasm for the event and willingness to help out young anglers.  Prior to the event, Doug provides a safety briefing to all of the participants and identifies evacuation areas and what to do in case of an emergency. Safety of all the anglers is his number one priority. Doug is onsite for the entire event, including boat safety inspections prior to the 7:00 a.m. launch time.

Doug has worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Carlyle Lake Project Office as a Natural Resource Specialist for 18 years. He currently serves as the Lead Ranger for the Environmental Stewardship and Resource Management Program.
