• Carlyle Lake Fireworks Spectacular

    CARLYLE LAKE – Due to elevated water conditions that have impacted Point 1, the fireworks will be shot off from Lakeview Access Area for the Fireworks Spectacular scheduled for Saturday, 29 June. Lakeview Access Area is located at the east end of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. During the Fireworks Spectacular, Lakeview Access Area and Chipmunk Nature Trail will be closed to the public for visitors’ safety. The Dam East Spillway Recreation Area will be open for parking/viewing of the fireworks. Once the fireworks begin, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the Dam East Spillway Recreation Area due to safety concerns. Viewing of the fireworks can best be seen from the west side of the top of the Carlyle Lake Main Dam, Dam West Day Use Area, McNair Beach, Dam East South Shore (Point 18), or from the water.
  • High Water at Lake Shelbyville

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is reporting high water conditions at the lake. The pool elevation has risen to 6.39 feet above normal summer pool (599.7 feet referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The level as of 7 a.m. on Thursday, June 20 was 606.09 feet NVGD and rising.  The discharge rate was 750 cubic feet per second (cfs).
  • Change of Command for Mississippi Valley Division

    Maj. Gen. Richard G. Kaiser will transfer command of the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), to Maj. Gen. R. Mark Toy in a formal change of command ceremony, July 23, 2019, at 10 a.m. in the Vicksburg Convention Center, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, USACE 54th Chief of Engineers and Commanding General, will officiate the ceremony.

    CARLYLE LAKE – June is National Great Outdoors Month and Carlyle Lake is the perfect place for all your favorite outdoors activities. Carlyle Lake has several nature trails around the lake for hiking enthusiasts to enjoy. Chipmunk Trail, Little Prairie Nature Trail, and the Willow Pond Trail are all centrally located and easy to access. Eldon Hazlet State Park also has several hiking trails throughout the park. All trails are free to the public.
  • Wasmuth Receives Distinguished Service Award

    Carlyle Lake –Natural Resource Specialist Doug Wasmuth was honored by the Illinois High School Association as a recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Service Award for his involvement with the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals. This annual award is given to individuals with a long history of service to the Illinois High School Association.
  • Dog Show Planned at Lake Shelbyville

    For Immediate Release: 14 June 2019 Release No.: 19-21 Dog Show Planned at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The 25th annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Show is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Forrest W. “Bo” Wood Campground. Participants may enter their dogs in the following categories: Best Trick, Best Dressed, Smallest Dog, Biggest Dog, and Most Precious Puppy. There will be prizes awarded to the winners of each category. Owners may enter multiple dogs, but only one dog per owner is allowed in each category. All dogs must be kept on a leach no longer than six feet in length while at the show and in any recreation area at Lake Shelbyville. This leash regulation helps ensure the safety of both animals and people. Any dogs present must be up to date on all of their vaccines. Dog Days will take place at the Bo Wood Campground Amphitheater (1060 CR 1025 North, Sullivan, IL 61951). Please note that the location has changed from Coon Creek Campground where it has been held in the past. Registration begins at 5:30PM, and the show begins at 6:00PM.     CARLYLE LAKE – Grab your fishing poles and bait and reel in some fish this weekend at Carlyle Lake during Illinois Free Fishing Days. From Friday, 14 June through Monday, 17 June anyone can fish in Illinois without having to purchase a fishing license. This annual event is the perfect time to introduce someone to the sport of fishing.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, will host a public meeting to present the draft findings of the Upper Joachim Creek Floodplain Management Plan on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at De Soto High School, 815 Amvets Drive, De Soto, MO 63020, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

  • Mark Twain Lake Announces Excess Debris on the Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announces due to high water levels the lake has an excess amount of debris. This can create hazards on the lake as well as make some areas difficult to maneuver. This debris can also fluctuate and move throughout the day with wind patterns. Clarence Cannon Dam will also be near or at maximum release, utilizing tainter gates to release water, please take extra caution to stay away from the Dam. We ask that you stay aware while on the lake, avoid areas you may see with large amounts of debris, and wear a life jacket while on the water.
