Welcome to Kaskaskia River Project

The Kaskaskia Lock and Dam is located at the confluence of the Kaskaskia River and the Mississippi Rivers. The Lock and Dam is a quiet retreat from your everyday hassles. There are up to 36 miles of the Kaskaskia River are available to fish, boat, hunt, ski, and to relax. Come and see areas rich in cultural and natural resources.
Illinois law requires children ages 12 and under to wear a Coast Guard approved lifejacket while the vessel is in motion. Loaner lifejackets are available at the Kaskaskia River Project Office and Visitor Center. There is no fee for the loaned lifejacket, but to borrow a lifejacket the adult must provide a name, address, phone number, and driver's license number. These lifejackets will be available seven days a week from daylight until dark. The goal of these lifejackets is to make life jackets more readily available for those recreating on the water, to teach about the importance of wearing a properly fitted lifejacket and to keep children safe.
Before you head out check out the local weather forecast… This will help you to be prepared for the day. Don't forget the sunscreen, plenty of fluids, and your lifejacket.
Remember Lifejackets Save Lives!
