Rob Davinroy

Chief of River Engineering

What got you interested in pursuing a career in engineering?

I used to be involved in model building in high school. My uncle said ‘Why don’t you go to the University of Missouri - Rolla?’ I went thinking ‘if it doesn’t work out, I’ll finish up somewhere else,’ but I didn’t.”

What has been your coolest experience or career highlight?

“I had the opportunity to meet President Clinton. I designed a type of river structure called Bendway Weirs, and we were presented an award.”

Why do you like working for the Corps of Engineers?

“We have the best resources, so the sky’s the limit when you have the opportunity to develop something new.”

Do you have any advice for high school students?

“You’ve got to have some interest in math. It helps you think in a way to solve problems.”
