ALTERATIONS

Definition

Whenever it is necessary to alter flood control works that have been constructed with Federal funds or rehabilitated with
Federal funds (PL 84-99) for which operation and maintenance assurances have been executed by local interests, it is
necessary to secure approval from the District Engineer.  When a third party such as a "utility or pipeline company" desires
to alter the flood control works, they must secure approval from the sponsor, who, in turn, will secure approval from the
District Engineer.  All matters pertaining to "Alterations" should be addressed in care of the Readiness Branch.

The following drawing depicts the process for applying for permission on an alteration project.

Note:  "The Sponsor" is the levee district where this alteration is proposed.

Please send information on any alteration you plan to:

               Jake Scanlon
    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
             St. Louis District
             CEMVS-OD-R
           1222 Spruce Street
      St. Louis, MO 63103-2833

Include a letter describing the alteration and why it is needed as well as any plans depicting where the alteration will be in
relation to the levee system.

After the information is received and processed, you will receive a letter from the St. Louis District, or the corresponding levee
district, granting or withholding approval of the alteration.   Keep in mind that the final decision on approval must be obtained
from the corresponding levee district.
