John Peukert has served as the St. Louis District’s Deputy for Programs and Project Management from September 2015 to June 2018 and April 2022 to present. While serving in the position he oversees the planning and execution of a robust civil works program that averages between $200M to $300M annually in planning, construction, maintenance and operation of a large portfolio of water resources infrastructure. He has oversite of a boutique International Interagency Support program with over 50 external customers both regionally and around the globe. Additionally, St. Louis District executes the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program for the region, a USACE administered nuclear waste clean-up program.

Most recently (June 2018 to April 2022), John served as the Japan District’s DPM, with oversight of a nearly $1B annual design and construction program on US military installations throughout Japan. The program consisted of design and construction of a large Host Nation funded portfolio executed in partnership with US Forces Japan and the Japanese Ministry of Defense. Japan District also designs and constructs an enormous Military Construction program in support of the US and alliance posture in the Indo-Pacific region. Additionally, the district serves many installations with high quality sustainment and maintenance construction efforts within the theater.

John began his career with USACE as a District Archaeologist and Tribal Liaison for the Vicksburg District from 2003 to 2008. He had the opportunity to be a lead archeologist and principal investigator on multiple archeological studies ranging from basic surveys to large mitigation/data recovery efforts. In March of 2008 he transferred to the St. Louis District to serve as a Project Manager, integrating all functions and processes involved in civil works projects across several business lines including inland navigation, flood risk management and aquatic ecosystem restoration. In October 2009 John was selected to serve as Chief of the General Plan Formulation Section St. Louis District; where he led and managed the District's planning program. Products ranged in scope from post-authorization changes to large scale feasibility studies, with a total dollar amount of potential federal water resources investment of over $500M. John had the pleasure to serve as the Planning and Environmental Branch Chief in the Pittsburgh District for three years (2012 to 2015). Pittsburgh’s planning portfolio represented more than $2B in potential federal water resources investment.

John served in the US Coast Guard from 1991 to 1995, with duty at Station San Juan and aboard the Cutter Bear. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a BA in Anthropology in 2000. John went on to attend the University of Mississippi (aka Ole Miss), where, as a NASA Research Fellow, received a MA in Anthropology with a focus on near-surface geophysics in 2002. He initiated a Cultural Resources Management business line in remote sensing and geophysics for a Dallas, Texas based AE firm from 2002 to 2003. 

John is a Registered Professional Archaeologists, a 2008 graduate of the USACE Planning Associates program and a 2007 graduate of the Vicksburg Leadership Development Program.

John resides in Imperial Missouri with his wife and son. He enjoys canoeing, camping, and following Cardinals Baseball and Ole Miss Football.
